It Is Well With My Soul

I love the old hymn, "It Is Well With My Soul." First written in 1873 by Horatio Spafford, millions upon millions of people have sung those words, usually with tears running down their cheeks.

But what does "it is well with my soul" mean? And how do you get to that place in your life where you can say those words without any doubt that they're true?

It begins with one question.

Do you know Jesus Christ as your LORD and Savior?

If your answer is "no" or "I don't know," then I'm sorry to say it is not well with your soul. But it can be! Very easily, in fact.

First, honestly ask yourself why you don't believe in Jesus, or in God, if that's where your unbelief is rooted. There is evidence for God's existence EVERYWHERE!! In nature. In your family. In your mirror. No amount of science, education, or manmade theories will ever be enough to disprove God's existence. In fact, science itself points to God! For instance, look at DNA. Amazing microscopic cells that make up your unique DNA have been with you ever since the ovum, or oocyte (an unfertilized egg cell) was inside your mother's body when she was inside her mother's body! God's plan of creation is utterly and breathtakingly awesome and miraculous! No scientist has ever been able to explain it away.

Next, when you come to understand and accept that there must be a God who created everything, I encourage you to read Genesis 1 & 2, then flip over to John 1 in the Bible. These passages tell us how God created the world, making it clear that Jesus, the Son, was there in the beginning. God's plan all along was to send Jesus to ultimately pay the price for our sin on the cross. Why would he do that?

In John 3:16, Jesus tells us why:
LOVE.

God created everything in the universe, including you, and he loves you enough to leave the perfection of heaven to come to earth, not to condemn you but to save you. God wants to spend eternity with us! He says so in Revelation 21:3.

But you won't be with God if you don't know
Jesus Christ as your LORD and Savior.

If it isn't well with your soul.

Jesus himself said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) If you would like to invite Jesus into your life--into your soul--all you have to do is admit that you are a sinner in need of a Savior. Believe in your heart--in your soul!--that Jesus is exactly who he said he is: God the Son. When you've asked Jesus with a sincere heart to forgive you, he will!

Then...
  • Live each day learning more about Jesus by reading your Bible. It's a lifelong process!
  • Spend quality time talking to God and listening with your heart.
  • Stop choosing sin. Your conscience will tell you what you're doing that needs to stop. (However, the enemy will try to convince you it's not sin, just as he did with Adam and Eve in the Garden.)
  • Find a Bible-believing church and community where you can grow in your faith.
  • Tell others who need to know Jesus so it will be well with their soul too! (That's what I'm doing here!)
I would be honored to pray with you. Please send me an email with your request (link on my website). May the peace, joy, and hope of knowing Jesus as your friend, Savior, and LORD fill your soul.

Blessings,
~Michelle
