Christmas Blog Post #17: What does God want for Christmas?

What does one get God for Christmas??

I mean, we're talking about the One who created everything! Everything is already His. Including us! Your body, your house, your car, your kids belong to God! But one thing God didn't want to own was our "free will." When we're created, each of us retains control over our hearts. It is our choice if we will fully belong to God or not.

So does God want a gift for Christmas?

Psalm 76:11 says: "Make vows to the Lord your God and fulfill them; let all the neighboring lands bring gifts to the One to be feared."

What gift can you bring Him?

"The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart." Psalm 51:17

I like how The Message Bible puts it:

"I learned God-worship when my pride was shattered. Heart-shattered lives ready for love don't for a moment escape God's notice."

It's hard to believe God wants me, but He does. A sinner saved by grace. A person full of faults. A person who struggles with pride, with forgiving others, with lots of things. Why would the One who owns everything desire my pathetic, sinful heart?

"For God SO LOVED the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16
