Sticks and stones....
I hate name-calling.
To me, anyone who calls someone else a rude, degrading or flat-out mean name is being childish. CHILDISH! I have never allowed my kids to call each other or anyone else ugly names. They were disciplined if they disobeyed our no-name-calling rule. There is a level of respect for other people that must be taught and learned if we are to be a civilized world.
I have to say, I wish adults out there would learn that very same lesson! All you have to do these days is listen to cable news or read blogs to find adults---grown men and women who know better!!---calling someone else an ugly name. It's worse than an elementary school play yard!
In this world of different races, different religions, different everything...to resort to name-calling is a sign of ignorance. Period. That person needs to come to grips with the fact that not everyone is going to agree with them and what they believe to be right. Resorting to name-calling simply shows the rest of the world how little that person truly is. Out of the billions of people in this world, not everyone is going to think like you. Or me. Spewing hatred will only result in more hatred. Spewing insults results in more insults and more hatred. Using ugly words to describe a fellow person is wrong. WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!
James 4:3-6 says this about the tongue:
"When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is, set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell."
Sticks and stones, folks. Let's all try not to throw 'em!
