Is God Your Best Friend?

A few years ago I had a poem published that started out like this:

"Friendships come and sometimes go..."

That really is true. I've had many good friends over the years. I've kept up with some. Some have fallen away. Kathy, my best friend since grade school, and I have stayed in touch even though we don't see each other often. Paula and Valerie, the sisters that lived across the street from our family, were truly blessings, though I didn't know that until I became an adult. We've recently reconnected which is fun. My college roommate, Sherry, and our neighbor in the dorm, Susie, and I have stayed friends after 20-something years. You may have seen pictures of us here on my blog and on my Facebook page from our girls-get-away-weekend this past summer. My buddies, Terri and Rhonda, are also my Sisters-in-Christ and I love hanging out with them and their hubbies.

'Course, my bestest friend in the whole wide world is Brian, my precious husband. We've been together since February 1984!! He still makes me laugh and we still have a great time together! What a tremendous blessing God gave me when He gave me Brian!

But as wonderful as my earthly friendships are, they don't compare to my friendship with God.

God is absolutely my Best Friend! He knows every single, solitary thing about me! He knows the good, the bad, and the ugly. Things that not even Brian, my earthly best friend, knows. And still, knowing me better than anyone ever will, God loves me unconditionally!

I envy Adam and Eve. I mean, they were best friends with God in a perfect environment. God walked with them! He talked with them! I imagine He laughed with them, too. "Look at that elephant's nose!" or some such silliness. They had a pure, perfect relationship with the Creator. There was no "religion" involved. No rituals. No ceremonies. No church buildings. No preachers. No Sunday school classes. No Bibles. No Christian books. No seminaries. No nothin'!

Nothing but a relationship!!

God was Adam and Eve's Best Friend!

I believe He still wants to be our Best Friend today! I believe He wants to spend time with us, just as He did with Adam and Eve. We won't get the privilege of physically walking with God until we get to Heaven, but we can certainly talk to Him! We can read His Word and "hear" His voice and know that He is listening and that He cares. He cares about the big stuff. He cares about the little stuff. Just like any best friend.

God wants a relationship with me. He wants a relationship with you!

God wants to be our Best Friend!

Earthly friendships are wonderful. But a Friendship with God is amazing!
